Bringing Text & Non-Voice Communication to 9-1-1 Today

From SMS to Real-Time Text (RTT), PSAPs can now implement field-proven technology to ensure ease of use and quick response. Hamilton NG911 provides platforms to add non-voice communication accommodation to existing Phase II calls, as well as full Next Generation 9-1-1 multi-media IP communication modality. Whether operating on legacy systems or Next Gen ready, Hamilton can help your PSAP prepare for emerging technology and widespread 9-1-1 accessibility.
SHORT MESSAGE SERVICE (SMS):
a.k.a Text-to-9-1-1. SMS is the most widely known and used form of text communication. In 2018 alone wireless users sent an average of 5.5 billion text messages per day, a 15.8% increase from the previous year (per ctia). With such a heavy reliance on text, the Next Generation solution for text TO and FROM 9-1-1 has arrived.
Through the Hamilton NG911 platform, PSAPs may now handle in-bound non-voice calls with an easy-to-use workstation that both complements existing infrastructure (Legacy) and serves as a Next Gen core component.
Text-to-9-1-1 Benefits
- Receive text from all wireless carriers on one platform.
- Cloud-based service.
- Meets industry ATIS and NENA i3 standards.
- Seamless upgrade to full ESInet operability.
In an emergency, every second counts! Equipping your operation with text to and from 9-1-1 takes widespread 9-1-1 accessibility to the next step. Then you may say: “Call if you can, text if you can’t.”
REAL-TIME TEXT (RTT):
The most inclusive solution for text communication with 9-1-1, and a key feature to NG 9-1-1 capabilities reaching their full potential. Upgrading to RTT will allow the public safety sector to align with the most common communication methods through digital and mobile devices and facilitate daily correspondence with text users. Through Hamilton NG911 hardware and IP infrastructure, PSAPs may now accommodate RTT and provide greater 9-1-1 access to the public.
What is RTT?
RTT is a technology that allows text to be sent immediately as it is created through wireless handsets that use IP-based technology on networks that support the service. NG 9-1-1 with RTT capability is a modern solution enabling PSAPs faster communication capabilities for emergency calls.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
RTT begins with two parties engaging in a phone call to each other, with both parties using an RTT capable device. Due to the immediate transmission of typed characters, RTT has the same conversational directness and interactivity as voice.

In addition to having the foundations in place to support RTT, NG 9-1-1 PSAPs need to have their networks interconnected with wireless carriers so that calls to 9-1-1 are end-to-end IP based. Hamilton NG911 is ready to help you implement this solution today!
